Active involvement of all sections of our school community is encouraged
to ensure an effective input into the direction and operation of the school,
thereby resulting in shared ownership and commitment to the school and its
policies. A further benefit is that student
learning is increased when parents are engaged with their child’s learning and
has a strong working relationship with the school and their child’s teacher.
Volunteers
Parents, grandparents and community who wish to work with children as
voluntary teacher aides are most welcome. Parents with special skills and backgrounds are
encouraged to be involved by sharing their special knowledge at training with
students or through special activities where it relates to the educational
curriculum. Training is supplied for all throughout
the year. Volunteers who are not parents need to hold a ‘Blue Card’. These can
be applied for through the school for free.
We share a
special partnership with Murrumba State Secondary College (MSSC). Over 100 MSSC
students (years 10-12) working towards qualification in ‘Volunteering’ help in
various ways at Undurba in classrooms to support learning and are involved in
special events.
Parents & Citizens Association
Membership of this association is open to all parents and interested
community members. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month
commencing at 6:15 pm. Officer bearers are elected at the March Annual
General Meeting each year.
Student council
Leadership roles and
opportunities are provided to students in years 4-6. Student councilors are elected by their class
members. These students meet with the
members of the Leadership Team, are trained in playground leadership and
conduct fund-raising activities for community groups and our school. A further opportunity exists for year 5
students to be elected and chosen as student leader roles in year 6. The school Captains and Vice-Captains lead this group
and are also invited to participate in regular leadership forums across the
district.
