At Undurba State school we understand literacy to be a social practice. Through a variety of learning experiences, we aim to empower students to become multiliterate lifelong learners in our rapidly changing world. We are committed to providing a strong foundation for the learning about language. We aspire to develop active and informed citizens by equipping students with an extensive repertoire of literacy practices. We provide an inclusive environment that addresses the diverse needs of our student population.

Our beliefs and understandings about literacy

  • Literacy is a social practice which shapes one’s future. By developing students’ capacity to write, read and view, speak and listen we ensure that they can use language powerfully in a range of situations in the real world.

  • Positive school community partnerships promote literacy learning.

  • Students present to learning with a range of experiences including cultural values, welfare, critical events, knowledge, motivation and learning styles.

  • All students can learn when engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

  • Self-esteem and self-identify is directly linked to a student’s literacy success.

  • Student’s literacy skills impact on all areas of the curriculum.

  • Engaging in professional development opportunities continues to drive our school community towards literacy excellence.

  • Rich and dynamic learning environments, best practice and fostering a love of language, enhance student outcomes.
